Mr Bongo Soundsystem & John Gomez take you on a trip from Lagos to Dalston!
Join us for a night of afro & world music, raising money for local children’s charity - Free to Be.
After trialing a host of Dalston basements over the last year (often under turkish kebab shops), we’re delighted to have found Hammershlagen, a quirky basement space with plenty of character and top draw German beer. We are very lucky to have two top selectors coming down to play. John Gomez runs Tangent along with former Mavrik alumnus Nick the Record, who DJ’d at one of our favourite parties to date down at the Souls. John hosts the Rush Hour show on NTS and is often found playing weird musical oddities in the Brilliant Corners bar just down the road. The Mr Bongo Soundsystem began life back in 1989 when they opened the doors of Mr Bongo Records, a London record shop specialising in Latin-Jazz, Bossa Nova and African heat. They travel the world buying and collecting records, as well as releasing sought-after tracks from Africa and Brazil under their respected '45’s’ record series. Their knowledge and breadth is unrivalled and we can’t wait to see what they have in-store for us.
We're also delighted to welcome along friends 'Heels & Souls' who will be spinning records in the upstairs bar all night long.
